To actively respond to the national call for energy conservation and emission reduction and promote the development of green, low-carbon cities, the Hengshui City Streetlight Management Center in Hebei Province recently launched an energy-saving renovation project for streetlights along Shengli Road (from Qianjin Street to Wenjin Street). All 282 high-pressure sodium lamps along the route will be fully upgraded and replaced with new, high-efficiency LED lighting fixtures.

“Compared to the previous light source, these LED lamps provide a brighter impression at the same illumination.” On May 29th, staff from the Hengshui City Streetlight Management Center were installing streetlights at the intersection of Shengli Road and Qianjin Street in downtown. Once completed, this renovation project will not only significantly improve street lighting quality but also significantly reduce energy consumption, creating a safer and more comfortable nighttime travel environment for residents. Compared to traditional high-pressure sodium lamps, new LED lamps offer significant advantages in multiple performance indicators. While traditional sodium lamps offer higher brightness, they often suffer from high energy consumption, short lifespans, and low luminous efficiency. LED lighting, with its low energy consumption, long lifespan, and high color rendering, is expected to achieve an overall energy saving rate exceeding 50%. Calculations show that, assuming a single street lamp operates for an average of 10 hours per day, the renovation can save approximately 120,000 kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 100 tons, achieving both economic and ecological benefits.
Notably, LED lighting technology also offers a better visual experience. Its soft, even light and significantly improved color rendering index effectively improve the color distortion seen under traditional sodium lamps, significantly enhancing nighttime visibility and safety, and making our city brighter and more vibrant at night.
A representative from the Hengshui City Streetlight Management Center stated that in recent years, Hengshui has continuously promoted the renovation and upgrading of its road lighting facilities. This energy-saving renovation is a key measure for the center to implement its “dual carbon” strategy. With the continuous innovation and widespread application of LED technology, Hengshui’s road lighting system is steadily moving towards greater energy efficiency, intelligence, and efficiency, injecting new impetus into the city’s green and low-carbon development.
