Midea and Sanan Optoelectronics set up a third-generation semiconductor laboratory

Recently, Midea Group announced that it has reached strategic cooperation with Xiamen San’an Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “San’an Integrated Circuit”), a subsidiary of San’an Optoelectronics, to jointly establish a third-generation semiconductor joint laboratory, and on March 26, 2019, the unveiling ceremony was held in Foshan, Guangdong. It is reported that in the future, the joint laboratory will develop third-generation semiconductor power device chips and high-tech products such as smart and highly integrated modules required for system applications, and introduce them into white goods. The cooperation direction will focus on GaN (gallium nitride) and SiC. (Silicon Carbide) Semiconductor power device chips and IPM (Intelligent Power Module) application circuits related research and development, and gradually introduced into the white goods field. The joint laboratory will also become a platform for cooperation between the two parties and a pilot test base and industrialization base for new technology research results.

Midea and Sanan Optoelectronics set up a third-generation semiconductor laboratory

Previously, Midea Group has been actively looking for domestic suppliers of third-generation semiconductors in the field of white goods, as well as introducing new application scenarios of third-generation semiconductors. This time, it chose to establish a strategy with Sanan IC through the establishment of a joint laboratory. Cooperation mainly focuses on the advantages of Sanan IC in the field of compound semiconductors.

Founded in 2014, San’an Integrated Circuit is a company specializing in compound semiconductor manufacturing. It owns China’s first 6-inch compound semiconductor wafer foundry and serves the microelectronics and optoelectronic markets around the world. It is owned by San’an Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. A wholly-owned subsidiary. The company has sophisticated III-V compound semiconductor manufacturing facilities and develops gallium arsenide, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride epitaxial wafers and substrates. With its own advanced process technology platform, Sanan IC is committed to helping the global radio frequency, millimeter wave, filter, power electronics, optical components, and subsystem industries grow and develop.
