In recent years, Ganyu District has closely adhered to the development direction of “green and low carbon, energy saving and emission reduction, and high-quality development”, vigorously promoted low-energy and low-consumption urban lighting, and focused on demonstrating and building the 7.7-kilometer-long Jinhai Road intelligent lighting project, with supporting facilities built along the line. Smart zebra crossings, smart street light poles, LED release screens, smart street lights, and building lighting have been installed to outline a colorful urban night scene, allowing residents along Jinhai Road to take the lead in enjoying smart, high-tech happy nightlife brought by lighting.

This year, the district has vigorously carried out the “Energy Saving Lighting” campaign around the goal of “energy saving, efficiency improvement, and scientific lighting” to replace the original high-energy-consuming street lamps such as high-pressure sodium lamps and five-spark lamps, intensify energy-saving upgrades, and take Remove the light source and rectifier in the original lamps and replace them with low-energy consumption, energy-saving, environmentally friendly, and good color rendering LED light sources; on this basis, add controllers to street lamps, and simultaneously implement intelligent remote monitoring and energy-saving management to ensure a large flow of traffic and people in the evening the illumination is normal at all times, and the street light power is automatically reduced late at night when there are few vehicles on the road, effectively meeting the needs of citizens for home life and safe travel, and injecting new vitality into the prosperous urban night economy.

“The new LED light source is not only more than 50% lower in power than sodium lamps, but also has a ‘power-adjustable, on-demand lighting’ function, which can automatically reduce its own power by 60% in the middle of the night when there is less traffic, and the overall energy saving rate reaches more than 60% , comprehensively improve lighting effects and energy efficiency, and achieve a ‘win-win’ of lighting and energy saving,” said Wu Congsen, head of the Street Light Management Section of the District’s Public Utilities Development Center.

Last year, the district completed the construction of a pilot section for street lamp energy-saving renovation on Yitang Road. Sodium lamps on two roads including Jinhai Road and Huanghai Road were upgraded and transformed in March; 25 urban roads including Huazhong Road and Dongguan Road had 1,971 sodium lamps and 625 five-metal lamps. The spark lamp upgrade and renovation work is being implemented in an intensive and orderly manner and will be completed before the end of April. After the energy-saving renovation of street lamps is completed, it is expected to save more than 1.188 million yuan in electricity bills a year. Maintenance costs will also be reduced, further achieving the “double festival” goal of saving electricity and carbon dioxide and saving electricity bills for street lamps in the district, and promoting the green and low-carbon development of urban lighting.
