4,000 LED lights are on at Wuhan Tianhe Airport
The construction of the third runway of Tianhe Airport started on June 26, 2022. A new 3,200-meter-long and 45-meter-wide 4E-level runway and supporting facilities will be built 360 meters east of the second runway. After completion, Wuhan will become the sixth city in China with three runway airports after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing and Chengdu. The passenger support capacity will reach 63 million passengers per year, and the cargo and mail throughput will meet 800,000 tons.
According to the relevant person in charge of Hubei Airport Group Construction Investment Co., Ltd., the navigation lighting system is a light sign set up to provide visual guidance for aircraft takeoff, landing and taxiing at night or in low visibility. It is known as the "third eye" of pilots and is the "bright road" that lights up the safe landing of aircraft at the airport. "After the first lighting, the construction party will also debug more than 40 circuits such as the precision approach lighting system, runway lighting system, and taxiway lighting system."
In early June this year, the first batch of concrete was poured for the third runway, and the last batch of concrete was poured at the end of July. During this period, the laying of navigation lighting cables and the installation of lamps were carried out simultaneously. The "multi-path advancement" took only two months to achieve the pavement connection and the completion of the navigation lighting system, setting the fastest record for the construction of domestic civil airport runways. In the next step, the third runway will also usher in important engineering nodes such as completion acceptance, flight test, and industry acceptance, and strive to meet the conditions for commissioning by the end of the year.
In addition to the third runway, the "Wuhan City Transportation Power Country Construction Pilot Implementation Plan" issued in July 2022 also proposed planning the construction of the fourth runway of Tianhe Airport.
