Dutch companies use LED lighting to grow vegetables and fruits

Developments in LED horticultural lighting continue to change our understanding of agriculture. According to LEDinside, since the rise of agricultural lighting, many companies have conducted research on planting crops using LED lighting. It is worth mentioning that among them the Dutch companies are quite active in this regard.

Recently, another Dutch company named Delphy has carried out a study on the use of LED lighting to plant raspberries and blackberries, aiming at harvesting fruits during winter.

Delphy first tried to use LED lamps to grow raspberries and blackberries in November last year, and in March this year, fresh blackberries can be harvested.

This experiment shows that under limited natural light conditions, blackberries can be successfully cultivated by LED lighting.

Based on previous experience, on September 11, researchers at the Delphy Improvement Center started a new project to grow blackberry plants that can be stored and frozen for a long time, and are ready to harvest the fruit in December.

Delphy said the project, supported by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, aims to study the effect of indoor lighting and light intensity combined with day length on promoting crop ripening. At the same time, the research will also develop a new future-oriented and energy-efficient planting concept to grow blackberries in winter.
