Hong Kong promotes energy-saving lamps and LED light, stopped incandescent bulb sales
Hong Kong’s Secretary for the Environment introduced the Hong Kong government by reducing the supply of incandescent and promotion of more energy-efficient lighting, in order to speed up the phase-out of incandescent, improve energy efficiency.
Hong Kong Environment Bureau in written reply to question 27 of the Legislative Council, pointed out that over the past decade the average electricity consumption for lighting accounts for about 15% of Hong Kong's total electricity consumption, energy efficiency and low general incandescent lamp, can use energy-saving lamps and LED bulb to replace .
Currently 36 suppliers and 28 retailers involved in charter program, fully committed to stop the sale and supplementary incandescent lamps. EMSD regular on-site inspections to monitor and ensure effective implementation of business sale arrangements.
Hong Kong Environment Bureau indicate that, energy-saving lamps contain trace amounts of mercury, such as mercury lamp breakage release a small amount of gasification, but under normal circumstances the transportation and disposal of energy-saving lamps, does not affect the health of the public and waste disposal personnel.
The law provides that any person who disposed of a large number of these lighting products, must be properly packaged and labeled by a licensed chemical waste collectors collect and transported to the disposal of the Tsing Yi Chemical Waste Treatment Centre.
EPA supports the industry to establish recycling programs, free home users to collect waste to produce energy-saving lamps, and then delivery to the processing center.
