How to extend the life of LED lights

As the fourth-generation light source, LED has the advantages of energy saving, environmental protection, long life, etc., and has been accepted by more and more people. Now almost all households have replaced incandescent lamps with LED lights. Many businesses advertise that its service life is tens of thousands hours, but many people found in use, it seems that its service life is not as long as advertised, or the brightness of the light changes from strong to weak, there are many influencing factors, LED is extremely sensitive to temperature, an important factor affecting the life is heat dissipation not good.

How to extend the life of LED lights

The effect of high temperature on LED

Professionals believe that the main impacts are as follows:

1. Excessive temperature will cause permanent damage to the LED

When the operating temperature of the LED exceeds the bearing temperature of the chip, the luminous efficiency of the LED will decrease rapidly, resulting in obvious light decay and damage.

The LED housing is made of transparent epoxy resin. If the temperature exceeds 125°C for a long time, the packaging material will change to a rubbery state and the thermal expansion coefficient will rise sharply, resulting in the disconnection of the LED circuit.

2. Increased temperature will shorten LED life

High temperature will also affect the drive circuit. As the temperature of the electronic components on the drive circuit increases, the capacitor may be soldered, reducing the service life.

3. The increase in temperature will reduce the LED luminous efficiency

When the temperature is high, the shell of the lamp will turn yellow, which will affect its light transmission performance. The higher the working temperature, the faster the process will be, which is one of the main reasons for the decline of LED brightness.

It can be seen that the LED is afraid of heat, the higher the temperature, the shorter the LED lifespan, and the lower the temperature, the longer the LED lifespan. So how to extend the service life of LED as a family? Let's share the little tricks of Mr. MR. ANDY Eddie.

1. Try to choose LED with metal shell

LED bulbs with metal shells are better with a heat dissipation grille on the surface, and the bulb part can be unscrewed. If it is used for general household lighting, it will not affect the use of it, and the heat dissipation effect will be better. However, LED lamps made of metal shell materials are usually more expensive, and are now usually replaced by low-cost plastic shells.

In the use of LED lights, try to keep the distance from the ceiling as far as possible to make the heat dissipation conditions better.

2. Plastic case LED light

The cost of plastic shell LED bulbs is low, they are basically one piece and cannot be separated, and they are all well sealed, so the heat dissipation effect is very poor. The service life is correspondingly short. You can put some convective cooling holes on the bulb to increase the heat dissipation, so as to improve its service life.

You can punch some small holes in the front end of the bulb, and you can get through it with the tip of a soldering iron. Punch some holes at the top of the bulb, and punch some holes around the outer wall near the lamp socket. This will form a convection, and the heat dissipation effect will be reduced. Greatly improved, the service life will be longer.
