Indian Railways will install LED lights

According to reports, Northeast Railway (NER), one of India’s 17 railway districts, will support the government’s energy conservation and environmental protection program by installing solar panels and energy-saving LED bulbs on its equipment.

Indian Railways will install LED lights

NER spokesperson Ashok Kumar said that NER has replaced the original 90W ceiling fan with a 60W ceiling fan and installed high pole lights in the vacant spaces of the platform. In addition, they have upgraded 6 station sign displays and offices, all replaced with LED lights.

Kumar added that NER also plans to replace 40W lighting equipment with 56,500 LED T5 tube lights in the near future.

Currently, two railway stations in India have completed the installation of LED lighting fixtures, and NER also strives to use solar energy to open up to 512 crossings in the station. One of these stations was rated as an "energy efficient station" by the Ministry of Energy of India in 2014. NER has saved 3.2 million energy units, which is equivalent to 23.3 million rupees (about 3.4 million US dollars).

Similarly, other railways are also following this trend. According to a regional manager of the local train station, the Northern Railway (NR) will also install solar light bulbs and LED light bulbs.
