Innovative new ways to realize LED flicker suppression technology

Ams, the world's leading supplier of high-performance sensor solutions, and SmartSens Technology, a global supplier of high-performance CMOS image sensors, recently announced the signing of a formal cooperation agreement. The two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in the field of image sensors.

Innovative new ways to realize LED flicker suppression technology

This collaboration is a powerful complement to Ams Semiconductor ’s business strategy, further expanding its product portfolio of 3D sensing technologies such as active stereo vision (ASV), time-of-flight (ToF) and structured light (SL), while accelerating the time to market To launch a more differentiated series of new products. In order to accelerate meeting the growing demand for 3D sensing solutions from mobile devices, the initial focus of the two parties' cooperation will focus on 3D near infrared (NIR) sensors for face recognition and applications that require high quantum efficiency (QE) in the NIR range ( 2D and 3D).

To speed up customer product launches, the two companies will collaborate to develop a 3DASV reference design to support the 1.3 million-pixel stacked BSI global shutter image sensor that is planned to be launched in the future. This sensor has a state-of-the-art QE of up to 40% (940nm). This NIR sensor is a perfect complement to Ams's 3D lighting products and expands Ams ’s 3D product portfolio to optimize the overall performance of the system. This reference design can provide high-performance depth maps for payment, face recognition, and augmented reality / virtual reality (AR / VR) applications at very competitive system costs.

"The cooperation with Stowe on image sensors, combined with Ams Semiconductor ’s industry-leading 3D technology and voltage threshold global shutter core IP, accelerates 3D active stereo vision in customers’ smartphones and other devices (including IoT applications) And time-to-market for structured light applications. This collaboration will also help accelerate time-to-market for new automotive applications, such as in-vehicle 2D and 3D sensing, "said Stéphane Curral, executive vice president of Ames Semiconductor Image Sensor Solutions.

"We are very pleased to work with Ams Semiconductor to combine our expertise in image sensors and NIR technology with Ams ’s 3D expertise and core image sensing IP. We believe that strong technology and market channels The combination will enable us to provide the best solution for meeting customer needs, "said Chris Yiu, Chief Marketing Officer of Siteway.
