Jiangsu semiconductor lighting industry will reach 120 billion in 2020

It was learned from the Jiangsu Economic and Information Commission that 12 departments including the Provincial Economic and Credit Commission, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and the Provincial Department of Education jointly issued the “Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Semiconductor Lighting Industry in Jiangsu Province”.

Semiconductor lighting (LED) is also called solid-state lighting. It has features such as low power consumption, long life, rich colors, shock resistance, and strong controllability. In recent years, the annual growth rate of the global semiconductor lighting industry output value has remained above 20%. In 2020, the share of semiconductor lighting in the global lighting market is expected to reach 50%, which is currently the most promising high-efficiency lighting industry recognized globally and vigorously developed. In recent years, the semiconductor lighting industry in Jiangsu Province has achieved rapid development, industrial technology continues to break through, industrial scale has expanded rapidly, the industrial chain has become increasingly complete, and energy-saving effects have become increasingly apparent. It has become one of the fastest growing semiconductor lighting industry in the country. The promotion of industrial development in Jiangsu Province can effectively expand the consumption demand of energy-saving products and promote energy-saving and emission reduction.

The reporter learned that despite the rapid development of semiconductor lighting in Jiangsu Province and the potential for development, there are still some problems that need to be resolved: the lack of core technology patents, and the need to strengthen the development of key technologies; LED epitaxial materials and chip production are mainly in the middle and low-grade markets. The technical level and product quality of downstream companies are uneven, and the overall level of the industry needs to be further improved; the scale of the company is small, the degree of industrial concentration is low, blind investment, and low-level construction still exist.

For this reason, the "Opinions" put forward specific policy measures focusing on promotion and application, and raising the level of industrial development. According to the main objectives set forth in the "Opinions", the semiconductor lighting industry in Jiangsu Province will grow at an average annual rate of around 25% and reach 1200 billion RMB by 2020. A group of semiconductor lighting industry clusters with distinctive characteristics will be established to form 3-5 companies to master core technologies. The key dragon skull enterprises with more intellectual property rights and famous brands have significantly improved their technological level.
