Key Livelihood Lighting Project Fully Completed in Shuanghe Town, Heshan City, Jiangmen, Guangdong
As night falls, newly installed streetlights light up one after another along rural roads in Shuanghe Town, Heshan City, Jiangmen, Guangdong Province. The lights illuminate residents’ way home and warm their hearts. Behind this achievement lies the pragmatic efforts of the Town People's Congress to listen to public opinions and respond to people’s needs. At the 10th Session of the 18th Shuanghe Town People's Congress held early this year, the "Shuanghe Town Lighting Project" was voted by deputies as a key annual livelihood initiative. The plan called for installing 600 streetlights mainly along major traffic arteries and public service areas to safeguard residents’ travel safety. Now, with the full completion of new streetlight installation and upgrading work across the town, this livelihood commitment has turned into tangible benefits for the public.
This lighting upgrading project covers a wide scope and delivers substantial benefits to residents. More than 1,000 streetlights have been newly installed or renovated throughout the town. Meanwhile, a special comprehensive inspection of all streetlights was carried out. Old, damaged and non-functional lights were thoroughly inspected, replaced or repaired, effectively tackling prominent problems such as equipment aging and insufficient brightness. In addition, authorities accurately identified lighting blind zones on village lanes and alleys and installed supplementary lights accordingly. The move completely eliminated dark spots for nighttime travel, achieving full-coverage lighting without dead ends on roads in towns and villages and fundamentally improving travel conditions at night.
During project implementation, the Shuanghe Town People's Congress conducted whole-process follow-up and proactive supervision, continuously monitoring the installation progress and construction quality to ensure the project was delivered on schedule and up to standard. All lighting works have now been fully finished. Over 800 new streetlights have been installed in Shuangqiaodu Village, Hecheng Village, Sihe Village and Xianqing Village, effectively addressing the shortage of rural lighting and enabling villagers to travel at night with greater peace of mind. Around 200 streetlights in the overseas Chinese neighborhood and Xinghua Area of the town center have undergone upgrading, renewing the townscape and adding a warm atmosphere to the hometown of overseas Chinese after dark.
Bright streetlights warm people’s hearts. The project has completely reversed the poor lighting and inconvenient travel conditions on town and village roads at night. It not only reinforces the safety barrier for residents travelling after dark, but also brings great convenience for commuting, leisure activities and farmers returning home late from farm work. Streaks of light brighten the rural nightscape and shine into people’s hearts. Villager Mr. Li shared his feelings: “Some sections of the village roads used to be dimly lit. We always felt unsafe when taking a walk or heading home late from farm work. Now all streetlights have been renewed. The roads are brightly lit, making nighttime travel safe and convenient. This project truly solves our troubles.”
The streetlight installation project serves as a vivid example of how Shuanghe Town earnestly delivers livelihood services. Moving forward, the Shuanghe Town People's Congress will continue to leverage its role in connecting with residents and exercising supervision. It will further improve urban and rural infrastructure and optimize living environments. With these small lights catering to people’s livelihoods, the town will light up the path toward rural revitalization in Shuanghe.
