NSW will use LED street lights
The lifespan of LED street light is expected to be more than 20 years, meaning councils will pay a lot less for both maintenance and power.
When a standard light on a suburban street fails and cannot be fixed, it will now be replaced with a super-efficient LED.An 18-month trial of LED streetlights, carried out by state-owned electricity distributor Ausgrid, found the technology reduced electricity use by up to 70 per cent.
The trial of 62 lights across eight locations in Sydney and the central coast also found that residents preferred the light output of LED street lights.
