OSRAM develops new LED smart headlights

The high-tech company OSRAM is developing the second-generation LED smart headlight Eviyos, which is expected to enter the market in 2023.

OSRAM develops new LED smart headlights

Two years ago, OSRAM launched the world's first intelligent, controllable LED headlight Eviyos, with 1,024 independently controllable pixels that can be automatically turned on or off at very fine resolutions depending on traffic conditions. Once the oncoming traffic flow is detected, the corresponding pixels will be automatically turned off, avoiding the glare to dazzle the other driver, and the driver does not need to switch between the high beam and the low beam to meet the application of high precision ADB.

Currently, OSRAM is developing a second-generation Eviyos that delivers breakthrough 25,600 independently controllable pixels on a single LED chip, with an area of only 40mm. Each pixel of light is clustered together with a pixel pitch of only 40, saving space.

Wolfgang Lex, vice president and general manager of automotive business at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, said: "The second generation of Eviyos has more than 25,000 individually controllable pixels that project high-definition quality light onto the road. In the future, cars can be used by drivers or other roads. The person displays a warning or symbol. When approaching the vehicle, the owner will also receive various welcome scenes."

In addition to outstanding high resolution, the second generation of Eviyos has an incomparable advantage in terms of energy saving and space saving. A fundamental function of the Eviyos series is to illuminate only the pixels required in a particular situation, which means that only the necessary energy is consumed. The second generation of Eviyos can gradually extinguish an area with unprecedented precision, while other areas glow under full illumination.

Although the second generation of Eviyos is still under development, this technology opens the door to new applications beyond traditional lighting, revealing the future of automotive lighting intelligence, energy efficiency, flexibility and control. Depending on the scenario, users can combine multiple Eviyos or combine them with other regular LEDs.

The world's first hybrid LED Eviyos will be launched in early 2020, and the second generation will be launched in 2023.
