Phase out of fluorescent lamps by 2027

At the recently concluded fifth Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (hereinafter referred to as the "Convention"), a new target date for phasing out fluorescent lamps was set in 2027, and the parties to the Convention have also agreed to ban manufacture, import and export of fluorescent lamps by the end of 2027.

According to the amendments at this meeting, two types of mercury-added lighting products, including self-ballasted fluorescent lamps below 30 watts and cold cathode fluorescent lamps for electronic displays, will be prohibited from production, import or export starting in 2025.

The news of this heavy news means that this lighting product, which has existed for more than a century, is about to "end its life" in the global lighting circulation market.
