In Jinlingyuan Community, Caoyang Xincun Street, Putuo District, Shanghai, there is a youth team composed of young talents from all walks of life. Under the leadership of the general party branch of the residential area, the team members actively display their expertise, stimulate brainstorming, and help community construction and development, providing new vitality, new ideas and new plans for community autonomy and co-governance. The collective efforts of youth power have allowed residents to witness the changes in community renewal, witness the vitality of community development, and witness the improvement of the quality of life. It also demonstrates the huge potential of "youth power" in promoting the construction of people's cities.
"Youth Power" proposes community construction and lets environmentally friendly street lights illuminate community trails
Recently, in Shanghai Chunzhisheng Community, a residential area in Jinlingyuan, the newly installed solar street lights on the community trails have provided safety and convenience for residents’ night activities, and have been widely praised by residents. An elderly resident said with emotion: "In the past, the roads always felt a little dark when walking at night. Now solar street lights not only provide enough light, but are also environmentally friendly, making our walks at night more secure."
This change originated from a community "Youth Salon" at the end of 2023. At that time, Wang Jie, a young volunteer from the community volunteer service team, heard many neighbors complaining that the lights on both sides of a green path in the community were too dim, causing inconvenience to residents walking at night, so he proposed to replace the street lights. This suggestion quickly gained the attention of the property management and neighborhood committees, but the buried pipeline required re-excavation of the road surface. The high cost of this construction put the decision-makers in a dilemma.
Faced with this situation, the community youth team put forward a new idea - "Is it possible to seek help from the East China Electric Power Design Institute, a paired co-construction unit in the residential area, to explore feasible solutions" Fortunately, this proposal was approved. The East China Electric Power Design Institute responded enthusiastically, and both parties quickly reached a consensus and decided to abandon traditional buried line lights in favor of more environmentally friendly, low-carbon and lower-cost solar street lights.
“The joint collaboration with East China Electric Power Design Institute not only provides a more efficient solution, but also reflects the community’s pursuit of sustainable development. While solving the community lighting problem, it reflects the concept of equal emphasis on innovation and environmental protection in community management. " Chen Jun said.
During the progress of the project, members of the community youth team visited the community to ensure that every corner could be illuminated by the newly installed solar street lights. After careful planning, it was finally decided to install 20 street lights, with 4 reserved as backup. This environmentally friendly and efficient plan was recognized by the East China Electric Power Design Institute, which took the initiative to bear the cost of all street lights. Through the joint efforts of both parties, the purchase and installation plan of 24 solar street lights was quickly put on the agenda.
