South Korea will launch "smart pole" street lighting system

Through the application of various information and communication technologies including S-DoT (Smart Seoul Data), these smart poles can also be used for Wi-Fi services, closed-circuit television and charging electric bicycles.

S-DoT is a sensor designed to collect 10 different types of information, including levels of dust, noise, light, temperature, humidity, and ultraviolet light.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Sunday that it will install and operate a total of 15 smart poles from next month.

According to the plan, a total of 10 basic smart pole models will be developed. Each model has different functions, depending on the characteristics of the installation location. On the basis of trial, they will first be installed on the road along the clear stream.

The government stated that it will actively consider the idea of ??transforming the roadside facilities to be replaced into smart telegraph poles.

Currently, there are approximately 240,000 pole-type roadside facilities in Seoul, of which 3,500 to 3,700 are replaced every year.

The Metropolitan Government expects to introduce smart poles to help save the installation cost of various roadside facilities and improve the urban landscape.
