Ten hot technologies of LED applications

  Now it seems that the LED application is focused on three main areas: the first is the lighting, indoor lighting, outdoor lighting, functional lighting, landscape lighting, stage lighting, etc., but the moment still the main alternative to incandescent and energy-saving lamps; followed is displayed, including the LED display, small pitch display, backlight (IGZO using low-power LED), etc.; finally non-visual lighting, such as ecological agriculture, health care and so on.

 Ten hot technologies of LED applications

  First is the overall energy efficiency of LED light source. The total energy efficiency = internal quantum efficiency light extraction efficiency × × chip package optical efficiency phosphor excitation efficiency × × × power efficiency lighting efficiency. Currently this value is even less than 30%, and our goal is to make more than 50%.

  Second is the comfort of the light source. Specifically including color temperature, brightness, color, color tolerance (color temperature consistency and color drift), glare, no flicker, but yet there is a uniform standard.

  Third is the LED light source and luminaire reliability. The main problem is the longevity and stability, from all aspects to ensure product reliability, in order to achieve 20,000 ~ 30,000 hours of life.

  Fourth is modular LED light source. LED light source, modular system integration package is the development direction of the semiconductor lighting source, we should focus on resolving the optical component interface and drive power problems.

  Fifth is the security of LED light source. We aim at solving biological safety light, bright, light flashes and other issues, especially the strobe problem.

  Sixth is the modern LED lighting. LED lighting and fixtures should be simple, beautiful, practical, use of digital, intelligent technology, so that LED lighting environment more comfortable, more in line with individual needs.

  Seventh is the intelligent lighting. Combined with communication, sensing, cloud computing, networking and other means for effective LED lighting control, lighting versatility and energy conservation, improve comfort lighting environment. This is the main development direction LED applications.

  Eighth is the non-visual lighting application. Application of LED in this new field, it was predicted, the market size is expected to more than one hundred billion yuan. Among them, ecological agriculture, including plant breeding, growing, livestock breeding, pest control, etc.; medical care, including treatment of certain diseases, improve sleep environment, health, function, bacteria, disinfection, water purification and so on.

  Ninth is a small pitch display. Currently its pixel unit is about 1mm, and in the development of P0.8mm ~ 0.6mm products can be widely used in high-definition and 3D displays, such as projectors, directing, scheduling, monitoring, large-screen television.

  Tenth is to reduce costs and improve value for money. As mentioned earlier, the target price of LED products is $ 0.5 / klm, and therefore in all aspects of the LED industry chain, including the substrate, epitaxial, chip, package, application design, etc., have adopted new technologies, new processes, new materials that costs continue to decline, improving cost-effective. So as to ultimately provide people with energy saving, environmental protection, health and comfort of LED lighting environment.
