The proportion of flexible OLED shipments of Chinese companies surpassed that of South Korea for the first time

Market research firm Stone Partners recently released data showing that in the second quarter of this year, Chinese companies' flexible OLED shipments are expected to account for more than 50%, surpassing South Korea for the first time. According to Stone Partners, Samsung Display's flexible OLED shipments are expected to drop to 38.9 million units from 46.5 million in the same period last year, and its market share is expected to drop from 59.5% to 41.2%. So far, Samsung Display's share in the flexible OLED market has fallen below 50% for three consecutive quarters.

In contrast, Chinese panel makers such as BOE, Visionox, Tianma, and TCL Huaxing are increasing the market supply of flexible OLEDs. Among them, BOE’s shipments of flexible OLEDs for smartphones reached 24.1 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 66.2%, accounting for 25.5% of the global market; Tianma’s shipments of flexible OLEDs for smartphones reached 8.9 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 305%, accounting for 25.5% of the global market share. TCL Huaxing’s shipments of flexible OLEDs for smartphones were 7.4 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 139%, accounting for 7.8% of the world; Visionox’s shipments of flexible OLEDs for smartphones were 7.1 million pieces, a year-on-year increase of 69%. %, the global share is 7.5%.

Overall, based on shipments in the second quarter of this year, the market share of Chinese companies' flexible OLEDs is expected to exceed 50%. This is the first time that a major Chinese display manufacturer has surpassed South Korea in the number of small and medium-sized OLED panels. According to the analysis and judgment of Stone Partners, with the continuous release of China's OLED production capacity and the continuous introduction of domestic OLED panels by Chinese mobile phone brands, it will not be easy for Samsung Display to regain more than 60% market share in the flexible OLED market in the future.

Sources from the Korean industry pointed out that because the price of flexible OLEDs of Chinese companies is close to that of rigid OLEDs of Korean companies, mobile phone terminal companies are unwilling to purchase and use Samsung Display’s rigid OLED panels.

In addition, research firm Magirror Research pointed out that South Korean panel companies are too dependent on Apple, and Apple has almost become a barometer for Samsung Display and LGD OLED shipments. Once Apple's orders decrease, it will directly lead to a sharp decline in the company's shipments. On the other hand, Chinese panel makers, relying on high-quality and affordable OLED products, are sought after by many domestic mobile phone brands, bringing positive stimulation from the demand side.
