The Z-Wave Alliance is a membership organization dedicated to advancing the development and application of Z-Wave. It has recently been announced that the Z-Wave Alliance has completed registration as an independent non-profit organization and appointed under its new standards development organization (SDO) structure Seven founding members: Alarm.com, Assa Abloy, Leedarson, Ring, Silicon Labs, StratIS and Qolsys.

According to SDO, in addition to working groups and committees, members of the Z-Wave Alliance will get new opportunities to participate in the organization, and have a new membership level and structure. These include function-specific technical working groups, such as the physical layer working group (mac/PHY), the network layer working group supporting the new Z-Wave specification, the application layer working group (command-type specification), and working groups for the following : Certification, security and marketing.

According to public reports, the Z-Wave Alliance will set up a committee to manage operations, technology and market needs.
