Thirteen Roads in Chengdu's Jinniu District Illuminated, Enhancing Residents' Journeys Home

As night fell and the lights began to twinkle, on the evening of March 24th, with the illumination of the last LED energy-saving streetlight on Huifeng Road in Chengdu's Jinniu District, all the newly installed streetlights on the district's 13 "lighting improvement" roads were lit. The warm white light poured across the road like flowing water, illuminating not only the journeys home for residents but also warming the hearts of countless people.

"Before, driving this road at night always made me a little nervous, afraid that a pedestrian might suddenly dart out and I wouldn't be able to see them. Now that the streetlights are on, I feel so much safer!" said Ms. Wang, a resident picking up her child from school on Huifeng Road, a relieved smile on her face as she stood under the new streetlights on the evening of March 24th.

Ms. Wang has lived near Huifeng Road for over ten years and takes her child to and from school every day. In the past, this road lacked lighting, remaining completely dark at night, causing great inconvenience to nearby residents and posing a safety hazard. “Especially in winter, it gets dark early, and by the time my child gets home from school, it's already dark and I can't see anything on the road. I always had to turn my car lights on to the highest setting, but I was still worried,” Ms. Wang recalled. Now, looking at the bright streetlights, she said with emotion, “It's so much better now. I feel much more at ease, and I'm relieved that my child can walk home by himself.”

Like Ms. Wang, Mr. Li, who lives nearby, has also felt the change. In his seventies, he has a habit of going for a walk every evening after dinner. “This road used to be pitch black. I'm old, and my eyesight isn't good, so I didn't dare go out for a walk at night for several years. Now that the lights are on, I go out for a walk every night, and I can run into many neighbors and chat with them. It makes me feel much better.”

13 roads are fully illuminated, with 152 streetlights lighting up 3.2 kilometers.

Before the Lantern Festival in 2026, with the full support of the Jinniu District Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau, newly installed streetlights on Taihong Road and No. 4 Hengde Road were the first to be turned on. Subsequently, streets like Jiefang East Street and Jinbo Road, which were previously "blind," were gradually illuminated. On the evening of March 24th, with the official lighting of the last road-Huifeng Road-the "Lighting Up" project in Jinniu District was completed on all 13 roads.

According to statistics, Jinniu District installed a total of 152 new LED energy-saving streetlights, illuminating a total road length of 3.2 kilometers, completely eliminating "lighting blind spots" in the area. The once dim and deserted streets are now bright and clear at night, giving the city a completely new nighttime appearance.

Mr. Zhang, a resident of Jiefang East Street, has a deep understanding of this. "Our neighborhood is an old one, with narrow and dimly lit roads. Going out at night always felt unsafe. Now it's much better. The whole street is brightly lit, and there are significantly more people going out for walks and dog walks at night. The relationships between neighbors are also closer," Mr. Zhang said with a smile. "These streetlights not only illuminate the roads but also light up the hearts of us ordinary people."
