Ways to Improve the LED Light Output Power

  Luminous efficiency is the most important parameter of LED light source, which is a ratio of the output and the power transmission (unit is lm / W). To increase the luminous efficiency of LED, you can increase the luminous flux emitted, that is, the LED output power. For a single LED, the output power is very small, thus often using the method of arranging in a circle to get a big power output, which in turn results to the large size and heat problems and other shortcomings. In order to obtain the optimal distribution between output power and LED quantity, we can take the following measures:

 Ways to Improve the LED Light Output Power

  1. Improving the cooling efficiency

  LED light source is a cold light source , a single LED heat is small, but the LED dot matrix , as more number of LED , densely arranged , the heat can not be ignored , if not excellent thermal control , LED will not work, the output power will be greatly reduced . Improve the cooling efficiency of the method has high thermal conductivity material selection, improved heat dissipation area and improved methods [ 5 ] .

  2. Adding a reflective (umbrella) cover

  LED is very small, strong direction, but the divergence angle is large, such as surface-emitting LED, both horizontal and vertical divergence angle of 120 °. Increase the use of reflective ( umbrella ) cover , to collect as much as possible LED backward , stray light edges, etc. , to reduce the loss of light , so that the output power to maximize utilization .

  3. LED collimation system design

  LED array is a divergent light source. In order to reduce the loss of light, except from adding a reflective Increase (umbrella) outside of the cover, the illumination system can use a new LED collimating optical system design.

  The method uses non- imaging optical system so that the effective luminous flux of the LED array converge the light flux into a beam of high brightness and result in a smaller divergence area, thus increasing the LED output power.
