Philips Lighting sold 1 billion LED products

Philips Lighting announced recently that it has sold 1 billion LED light sources and lighting products and is gradually realizing its commitment to the Global Lighting Challenge Plan. At this point, Philips Lighting plans to sell more than 2 billion LED products by 2020.

Philips Lighting sold 1 billion LED products

Philips Lighting is the first company to achieve 1 billion LED products sales, a milestone in the global lighting energy-saving and mitigation of the positive signs of the greenhouse effect. In December 2006, Philips Lighting launched a global initiative calling for the phase-out of incandescent lamps. Under this initiative, the global lighting energy consumption has been gradually reduced from 19% to 15% by the Paris climate agreement in 2015. It is estimated that it will be reduced to 8% by 2030.

"This milestone shows that we have successfully led the transformation of traditional lighting to the LED, which will make a significant contribution to the global climate challenge program." Improving energy efficiency is achievable goal. Today, lighting energy efficiency is double the efficiency of energy use "Said Harry Verhaar, head of global government and public affairs at Philips Lighting." The high quality LED light source that is retrofitted can save as much as the equivalent of a total of 30 medium-sized thermal power plants and reduce the equivalent of 1 and the total emission pollution generated by 2 million cars, these remarkable achievements have really affected our lives. "

Simple LED light source replacement can achieve significant energy savings, loading intelligent interconnection lighting system, the energy-saving effect to further enhance, up to 80%.

Philips Lighting's 1 billionth LED product was presented to the Bonn Global Climate Conference on behalf of international governmental and non-governmental organizations. They include representatives from the United Nations, the International Energy Agency and global environmental agencies.

Rachel Kyte, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and CEO of Sustainable Energy for All, said: "The major companies in the Paris Climate Summit made a commitment to building a low-carbon world. Philips Lighting has translated this commitment into a practical action. During the year, they have more than half promised to sell more than 2 billion LED products by 2020. The sale of 10 billion LED products is equivalent to saving energy consumption for 300,000 families. Philips Lighting's Action gives us confidence in the future"

Philips Lighting calls on governments to participate in building more energy-efficient planets by:

By 2020, all new buildings should use LED or less energy-efficient lighting

By 2025, all road lighting should use LED or less energy-efficient lighting

By 2030, all existing buildings should be retrofitted to LED or less energy efficient lighting.

The Global Lighting Challenge Program is an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial Conference to promote the global sales of advanced lighting products such as LEDs with energy efficiency, high quality and parity at a scale of 10 billion. The transition to energy-efficient lighting products not only significantly improves short-term efficiency but also has a long-term effect in mitigating global greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the latest report of the International Energy Agency, 1 through energy conservation retrofits conducted in the last 16 years, in the year 2016 alone, the global energy consumption has been reduced by 12%, equivalent to the energy consumption of the entire EU.
