The third phase of the landscape lighting project on both sides of the Suzhou River in Putuo, Shanghai has been completed
The night view of Suzhou River, the charm of Shanghai. Recently, the third phase of the landscape lighting project on both sides of the Suzhou River in Putuo, Shanghai has been completed. With a total length of 42 kilometers, it is praised for its new brilliance and improved night quality.
The Putuo District Greening and Urban Appearance Management Bureau previously completed the first and second phases of the Suzhou River Putuo section landscape lighting projects at the end of 2022 and the third quarter of 2023 respectively with the themes of "Blue-Green Space·Quality Putuo" and "Quiet and Elegant Sky·Quality Putuo". The third phase of the project will start construction in the second half of 2023, improving the quality of landscape lighting such as embankments, waterfront spaces, important nodes, and first-facade buildings along the 16.5-kilometer river from Luding Road Bridge to Anyuan Road, integrating the ancient charm of Suzhou River with the modern Shanghai style.
"The third phase of the project focuses more on the perspectives of cruise ships and pedestrians, and pays attention to the layering and dynamic beauty of light and shadow in details. By adding special installations and light and shadow art galleries, the night view will be more vivid." Zhang Xia, head of the Urban Landscape Section of the Putuo District Greening and Urban Appearance Management Bureau, said.
On the 21-kilometer embankment, the Putuo District Greening Bureau integrated artistic landscape lighting light boxes into the flood control wall area, using light and shadow to outline the image of the night heron and integrate sound and fragrance; the secondary flood control wall was combined with the waterfront space through stones, and the waterfront greening lighting was like a star inlaid in the green brocade. In terms of waterfront space, sections such as Mengqing Bay and Jiuguoyuan Bay have added ecological-themed small animal light sketches and atmosphere lighting facilities such as fog forest. In addition, the third phase of the project also designed the first facade buildings along the river and created night highlights for historical buildings. "During the lighting stage every night, we will take into account the lighting effect and residents' perception, set weekday mode and festival mode, and reduce light pollution to citizens." Zhang Xia said.
"Next month we will host the first Shanghai International Light and Shadow Festival, and the Putuo venue will add a strong and colorful stroke to the Shanghai city nightscape. In the next step, Putuo District will also timely launch the fourth phase project of about 4.5 kilometers of coastline from Luding Road Bridge to Jingyang Road to complete the final touch of the 'Banma Suhe' landscape lighting." Huang Yongjia, deputy director of the Putuo District Greening and Urban Appearance Bureau, said.
