Large-Scale Intelligent Upgrade of LED Street Lamps Completed in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area
Recently, the large-scale intelligent transformation project of LED street lamps in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) has been completed, with more than 20,000 traditional street lamps upgraded and replaced.The project deeply integrates the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G communication and big data analysis technologies, which has not only realized an energy-saving revolution in TEDA’s lighting system, but also built a full-coverage intelligent sensing network, making urban governance more efficient and residents’ lives more convenient.

The street lamp transformation includes replacing LED luminaires, upgrading street lamp box transformers, adding single-lamp controllers and a street lamp management platform, covering seven parks in TEDA: East Area, West Area, Central Business District, Binhai-Zhongguancun Science Park, Yixian Smart Innovation Park, Microelectronics Innovation Industrial Park and Modern Industrial Park. In the long term, photovoltaic or energy storage equipment will be added on the basis of this transformation.
This street lamp upgrading project is an important practice for TEDA to implement the core concepts of “green and low-carbon development, intelligent empowerment and intensive management”, as well as a key measure for the region to promote the construction of new-type infrastructure. Focusing on the pain points of the traditional lighting system, such as low brightness, high energy consumption and extensive management, the project follows the idea of “lighting up a city with one lamp”, helping to coordinate the achievement of the “dual carbon” goals and the modernization of urban governance.
In terms of technical application, the transformation features distinctive scientific and technological empowerment. Each street lamp is equipped with a single-lamp controller, realizing real-time connection with the regional data management platform through IoT technology. Relying on 5G communication, the platform can collect core data in real time, including voltage, current, lighting status and energy consumption statistics of street lamps.
In terms of urban governance, the upgraded lighting network realizes “one-screen management” of the operation status of all street lamps through the data management platform. Staff can remotely adjust the switching time, brightness level and other strategies, monitor operation parameters and equipment failures in real time, and shorten the response time for street lamp fault handling. Combined with big data analysis algorithms, it realizes classified fault statistics and automatic fault alarms, greatly improving the refinement and intelligence of urban management, reducing operation and maintenance costs, and injecting strong impetus into the regional green development.
This street lamp transformation is not only an upgrade of the lighting system, but also an important exploration of the intelligent transformation of infrastructure in TEDA.In the next step, Tianjin TEDA will take this transformation as an opportunity to continuously improve the intelligent lighting management system, optimize the data analysis capability of the platform, and enhance the efficiency of facility operation and maintenance. It will further expand the coverage of intelligent street lamps, gradually realize a comprehensive intelligent upgrade of the regional road lighting network, and continuously improve the quality of life for citizens.
