Philips is joining hands with GSF to build an indoor LED light source farm
Currently, Philips, the global leader in the lighting industry, is in collaboration with Green Sense Farms (GSF) in Chicago to establish indoor LED grow light farm for the use of specific crops, which is also one of the world's largest indoor farm.
The farm uses the Philips LED "light formula" (Light Recipes) to optimize production. This innovative farm model allows GSF to have 20 to 25 times of harvests during the year and saves 85% of energy. The results will significantly improve crop yields and reduce operational costs. Meanwhile, it is able to continuously provide consumers with fresh vegetables grown locally in a year.
Philips gardening Lighting Director Udo van Slooten pointed that "the vertical hydroponic technology being used by GSF and the Philips’ LED grow light bring a unique advantage - Ability to consistently produce high-quality crops year-round."
It is reported that GSF has invested millions of dollars to transform and update their equipment for a more than 28,000 cubic meters of indoor growing space. The company will equip the two environment growth control chambers with 14 planting towers with the height of 7.62 m and adopt Philips energy-efficient LED lighting solutions to grow certain crops. This approach also eliminate the harmful pesticides, fertilizers and preservatives used, making the production an organic increase and almost no chemical additives.
