Beihai Airport in Guangxi Conducts Comprehensive Maintenance of Airfield Ground Lighting System
Recently, Beihai Airport in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region carried out maintenance work on its Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system, conducting a thorough and in-depth inspection, repair, and overhaul. This initiative aims to improve power supply reliability during thunderstorms and further ensure the safety of aircraft during takeoff and landing.

As a critical support facility for airport operations, the AGL system plays a key role in the safe takeoff and landing of aircraft. Utilizing post-flight hours in the early morning, Beihai Airport's AGL maintenance personnel meticulously tended to each light fixture to ensure continuous and stable equipment operation, providing guidance for the safe arrival and departure of flights. This maintenance work covered subsystems including runway lights, taxiway lights, and apron lights. The focus was on inspecting the cable connection points of the light fixtures to confirm their firmness and sealing, preventing potential safety hazards caused by issues such as looseness or open circuits. Problems identified during the inspection were promptly addressed, with aged cables replaced and poorly sealed light fixtures re-sealed to ensure no safety vulnerabilities. A comprehensive check of the fixtures' exterior was performed, and their light emission performance was strictly tested to verify that brightness, color, and beam angle all meet the required standards.
During this operation, a total of 1,205 lights-including runway centerline lights, taxiway lights, and taxiway edge lights-were inspected and maintained. Over 20 cable terminations were remade, more than 10 isolation transformers were replaced, over 100 light fixtures were cleaned and maintained, and approximately 700 meters of cable were replaced. Moving forward, Beihai Airport will continue to strengthen the daily maintenance and management of the AGL system, establish a regular maintenance mechanism, and consistently improve maintenance quality and efficiency to ensure the system remains in a safe and reliable operational state.
