As night falls and the lights come on, driving along Beijing's Haidian District Fourth Ring Road, the buildings along the route seem to be imbued with life, shimmering with light and color, creating a harmonious blend of stillness and movement. Beijing's Haidian District Fourth Ring Road Transformed into a "Light and Shadow Corridor"

This is the new night view brought about by the Haidian Fourth Ring Road landscape lighting upgrade project.

According to the Haidian District Urban Management Commission (Transportation Commission), this landscape lighting upgrade project systematically renovated the facades of 17 landmark buildings, multiple building clusters, and some residential buildings along the Fourth Ring Road, constructing a nighttime landscape system that combines visual artistry and cultural recognition, becoming a beautiful scenic line.

At night, the Fourth Ring Road seems to be draped in a flowing ribbon of light. On the facades of high-rise buildings such as the Shining Building and the Hangyao Building, points of light twinkle like stars, with dynamic and changing lights creating a series of magnificent light and shadow paintings.

"Purple at dusk, gold at night, and indigo at night"-this light and color design, based on the traditional Chinese concept of time, forms the visual framework of the lighting project.

From dusk till late at night, the buildings along the route experience a sequential transition between purple, gold, and indigo: the gentle purple light diffuses like brocade spread by evening clouds; the golden light cascades down, instantly making the building outlines magnificent and solemn; and the indigo light and shadow flow like water across the facades, the deep blue hues conveying a sense of wisdom and technology.

"Through architectural facades and dynamic point light source technology, we achieve synchronized lighting and color across the building complex, creating a coherent and narrative visual corridor," explained a representative from the Advertising and Landscape Management Section of the Haidian District Urban Management Commission. "Large public and residential buildings along the route integrate into the overall lighting environment through changes in skyline lighting, enhancing spatial unity and a modern feel; while traditional buildings and low-rise public buildings mostly utilize warm-toned static lighting, soft and elegant, continuing the cultural fabric of Haidian and creating a continuous and layered nighttime interface."

Whether driving along the Fourth Ring Road or strolling leisurely on the pedestrian walkways, citizens can intuitively perceive the flow of time through the subtle changes in light and color, as if light and shadow are silently telling a story of time that blends tradition and modernity.

Children excitedly point at the changing buildings, while photography enthusiasts set up their cameras, waiting for the perfect moment of light and color transformation.

"Driving along the Fourth Ring Road every day after get off work, I can clearly feel that the lighting now has more depth and charm," said Ms. Liu. "Especially the purple lighting effect, which gives a sense of tranquility and mystery." Mr. Zhang, who has lived near the Fourth Ring Road for many years, also remarked, "Now, taking a walk in the evening feels more elegant; the nights in Haidian are truly becoming more and more flavorful."

Under the cover of night, the Fourth Ring Road is no longer just a traffic artery, but has become a journey of light and shadow that can be read, felt, and resonated with.

Using light as its brush, it paints an artistic image of time, illuminating the warmth and charm of a city.
