Bozhou, Anhui Launches LED Smart Zebra Crossings and AI Streetlights
A host of cutting-edge technologies have been quietly put into use on the streets of Bozhou City, Anhui Province, including smart zebra crossings and AI intelligent streetlights. These facilities not only make nighttime travel safer, but also integrate green and low-carbon concepts into every detail of daily life.

Glowing Zebra Crossings: A Safety Guardian for Smartphone Users
As night falls, lights flicker on the zebra crossing at the intersection of Xiyi Avenue and Huaihua Road in downtown Bozhou. With automatically adapted intelligent lighting effects and precise guidance, the crossing ensures safer and clearer pedestrian passage, emerging as a new urban scenery in the night.“The smart zebra crossing is attractive, highly practical and creatively designed,” commented citizen Sun Feifei with praise.
Another citizen, Geng Mingwen, mentioned that many people now look down at their mobile phones while walking. The flashing lights on the zebra crossing serve as a timely reminder, greatly safeguarding pedestrian safety.
Fully upgraded compared with traditional versions, this smart zebra crossing adopts energy-saving LED light sources throughout the whole line. Illuminated at night, it delivers striking visual effects that balance beauty and practicality, embedding low-carbon and energy-saving concepts into daily travel.
Feng Jinguang, a staff member of Anhui BoWu Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., introduced that the project adopts high-light-transmittance, pressure-resistant and wear-resistant luminous bricks. The bricks synchronize with traffic light signals in real time and automatically adjust colors and flashing frequencies. Even in low-visibility conditions such as night, dawn, dusk, rain and fog, they clearly mark pedestrian zones and remind drivers to slow down and yield.
“Smart” AI Streetlights: Lights On Before Vehicles Arrive, Dim After Vehicles Pass
While glowing zebra crossings protect pedestrians, AI streetlights bring considerate travel experiences to drivers.
The AI vehicle-linked lighting system launched in the BoWu Industrial Park will not turn off completely after vehicles pass by. Instead, streetlights automatically dim to enter a low-power mode, balancing travel safety and energy consumption reduction.
Li Changyun, Deputy Manager of the System Integration Center at China Mobile Bozhou Branch, stated that leveraging 5G’s low latency and high reliability, combined with edge computing and AI algorithms, the system realizes real-time vehicle perception and predictive dimming control. It achieves seamless intelligent switching - lights turn on in advance for approaching vehicles and dim down after vehicles leave, delivering both travel safety and energy efficiency.
