Canada offers incentives for greenhouses using LED lighting technology

According to foreign media reports, the Canadian Independent Power System Operating Company is providing incentives for greenhouse owners in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent to switch to LED technology.

The incentive will cover about 30% of the total cost for retrofitting lighting or using LED technology in new construction. This is roughly three times the rewards previously offered.

Jordan Penic, Independent Power Systems Operator, said, "From using high pressure sodium lights to LED lights, the technology is really improving, and when we see growers switch to LED lights, we find that they can save up to 55% of their energy consumption or energy consumption. cost".

Seeing growth, ISCOs are using the area as a pilot area.

“We want to make sure that the incentives are focused on areas with significant growth because that’s good for the power system and ensures we manage growth in a cost-effective manner,” Jordan Penic said.

The incentive program will remain available to growers in the region until the end of 2020. Rebates will be provided after eligible growers demonstrate the savings to the ISCO.
