Convenience store partners with LED vertical farm company

Vertical farms break the limits of growing crops and open up possibilities for food production everywhere. Vertical farms use LED adjustable lighting and hydroponic systems, use their own advantages to narrow the distance between growers and consumers, and attract strategic partners to launch innovative services. For example, international vertical farming startups partner with airlines and convenience stores.

Singapore Airlines has teamed up with US vertical farming startup AeroFarms to realize the "farm to plane" concept. From October 2019, AeroFarms began to supply fresh produce to Singapore Airlines. Passengers flying from New York to Singapore can enjoy vegetables grown in AeroFarms' Newark (Newark) farm.

In addition, the German InFarm company has cooperated with the American retailer Kroger to bring modular living agricultural product farms into American convenience stores. In November 2019, InFarm launched its modular living produce farm, featuring LED lighting and hydroponics, at two of its 15 convenience stores in Washington, US. Agricultural products are grown on-site in convenience stores, eliminating the need for extended transportation and storage times.

Kroger's partnership with Infarm is a great example of innovation in the grocery industry. Kroger is fully committed to its Zero Hunger Zero Waste Social Impact Initiative, which aims to end hunger in local communities and eliminate waste company-wide by 2025.

Likewise, InFarm has raised $100 million in Series B funding and has partnered with 25 food retailers in Europe.

It is also worth mentioning that in November 2018, 7-11, the largest convenience store in Japan, announced the establishment of a large plant factory in Tokyo to provide vegetables for salads and other foods sold in its stores. LED lighting in vertical farms controls the cultivation process by adjusting the color, duration, and positioning of light exposure, so food distributors can stabilize the supply of vegetables.
