Delta LED Plant Farm helps Singapore's food supply

There are vegetables from Malaysia, China and Australia on the supermarket shelves in Singapore, with only a few local agricultural products. In order to increase domestic production, the government proposed the "30·30 Vision". In addition to urban farms built on top floors, container-type plant farms are also expected to be put into production.

Delta LED Plant Farm helps Singapore's food supply

More than 90% of Singapore’s food sources depend on imports. In order to strengthen food security and increase domestic production, the government proposed the “30·30 Vision” in 2019. The goal is to achieve that locally produced agricultural products can meet 30% of the nutritional needs of the public by 2030. 20% of it comes from vegetables and fruits, and the remaining 10% comes from protein contained in fish, eggs, etc.

Fueled by the epidemic, Delta Group has also accelerated its pace to launch a container-type plant farm in Singapore, which has been showcased at the Punggol Digital District in Singapore since last year. Punggol Digital Park is the first smart business park in Singapore, and Delta is one of the first international companies to settle in.

Gu Fuhua, general manager of Delta Singapore, said that Singapore's land resources are limited and prices are high. The local government strongly promotes the "30·30 Vision" and believes that Delta Plant Farm will develop very well.

She said that there are two types of Delta plant farms: container type and indoor plant farms, both of which hope to change from traditional farming to automation and digitalization. "All production can be managed like a factory", so as to control product quality and Yield.

Delta pointed out that this 12-meter-long container-type plant farm integrates the company's automation, fans and cooling solutions, LED lighting and other products and systems to grow vegetables in a non-toxic and low-carbon environment, and the water consumption is less than 5% of traditional farming methods.

Delta mainly provides power management and cooling solutions, and has long been concerned about environmental issues, continuously improving the energy conversion efficiency of products to reduce the impact of global warming. Focus on 3 major areas including "power supply and components", "automation" and "infrastructure".

Currently seeing many innovations in this area in Singapore, coupled with the strong support of the government, Gu Fuhua estimated that "from 2024, we will see some mass-produced farms should come out and start to see some mass-produced vegetables", providing another option for consumers.

In addition to the Singapore market, Gu Fuhua said that Thailand, Australia and the Middle East countries also have the potential to promote plant farms. Such as Australia, the Middle East and other places with a large area and sufficient sunshine, solar energy can also be used as a source of electricity, and it does not need to be connected to the main grid. In this way, even vegetable production can fully support green energy. "The meaning is even more different’’.
