New Zealand greenhouse uses LED plant lights to improve tomato quality

LED technology can also help farmers everywhere, allowing them to respond to climate change more accurately. Taking tomato planting as an example, Philips Lighting cooperated with Gourmet Mokai, a New Zealand food group, to use LED growth lights to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of tomatoes. In January 2018, a new type of greenhouse was installed LED lights in a 4,500-square-meter (approximately 1,316 ping) greenhouse on the North Island.

Gourmet Mokai uses New Zealand's natural conditions to plant plants, uses geothermal steam heating, uses hydroponics to grow tomatoes, and then installs LED lights above and between plants. Gourmet Food Production Director Roelf Schreuder pointed out that he hopes to improve the taste, vitamin C content and food shelf life of tomatoes through specific LED spectrum.
