Over 2,600 Streetlights Replaced in Pingchao Town, Tongzhou District, Nantong, Jiangsu Province

In 2024, Pingchao Town in Tongzhou District, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, launched a comprehensive streetlight renovation project for the town and its main roads, upgrading over 2,600 streetlights through an energy management model. The project is currently in the final acceptance phase, effectively improving the quality of nighttime lighting in the area through intelligent technologies.

At 6:30 pm, as night falls and the lights come on, rows of bright, soft streetlights illuminate the roads for residents. "The old streetlights were yellowish, and sometimes it wasn't very clear at night. Now they're much brighter, and it's safer to travel at night," said Mr. Wang, a resident, looking at the new streetlights.

It is understood that the original streetlights in Pingchao Town were generally 15-20 years old, suffering from aging facilities and a high failure rate. This project replaced over 2,600 high-pressure sodium lamps on main and secondary roads, side streets, and open residential areas within the jurisdiction, and upgraded all LED lights with smart technology. Currently, all streetlights are connected to the smart lighting management platform, enabling precise control of individual lights.

After the upgrade, the average brightness of road lighting in Pingchao Town has increased by approximately 100%, effectively eliminating nighttime lighting blind spots. Replacing the high-pressure sodium lamps with LED lights has resulted in annual energy savings of over 60%, a 20% reduction in maintenance costs, and a reduction in carbon emissions of approximately 622 tons per year.

Simultaneously, relying on technologies such as remote monitoring and AI data analysis, the smart lighting management platform can monitor the equipment status of each streetlight in real time, enabling automatic alarm and dispatching of equipment in case of malfunctions. The platform can also match differentiated lighting strategies based on the road's classification and lighting brightness requirements, dynamically adapt to the characteristics of surrounding facilities (such as schools and commercial areas), and achieve intelligent on-demand lighting by combining the temporal distribution of pedestrian traffic.
