Purple protective lights illuminate Lijiang, Yunnan

Recently, over 400 smart mosquito repellent lamps quietly lit up across the 10,000-acre mango orchard on Longtou Village, Rongjiang Town, Huaping County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of Huaping mangoes.

As night falls, the mosquito repellent lamps dotted across Longtou Fruit Mountain complement the starry sky. Each mango mosquito repellent lamp flickers softly, appearing and disappearing among the branches and leaves, their lights rhythmically pulsing, attracting approaching mosquitoes.

The mosquito repellent lamps are strategically distributed throughout the orchard. They absorb and store solar energy during the day and automatically activate at night. They utilize specific spectrum trapping technology, mimicking the signals of natural enemies and using a specific wavelength of light to precisely lure and kill major pests such as fruit flies and thrips.

"Every year, as temperatures rise, insect infestations increase, affecting the quality of mangoes. The installation of the insect repellent lamps has been very effective," said villager Wang Hongfen.

Chen Jiao, a senior agronomist at the Huaping County Mango Industry Development Center, stated that installing solar-powered insect-killing lamps in Guozi Mountain, which lure and kill insects based on their phototaxis, not only reduces farmers' input costs but also provides a green protection system, improving mango quality.

It is reported that in addition to Longtou Village, Wenquan Village has also installed over 1,000 such lamps, with initial success. The density of mosquitoes in the orchards has been significantly reduced, effectively minimizing fruit damage. The Huaping County Mango Industry Development Center will continue to closely monitor the effectiveness of the mosquito-killing lamps, further optimize their deployment based on actual conditions, and explore more scientific and effective pest and disease control methods to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the mango industry.
