Samsung released plant illumination high photon efficiency full spectrum LED device

Samsung Electronics, the world's leading provider of semiconductor device solutions, recently announced the introduction of the industry-leading reinforced plant-wide full-spectrum mid-power device, the LM301H, for greenhouse and plant lighting applications. The new LM301H plant lighting device delivers photon efficiencies of up to 3.10 ol/J, making it the leader in current mid-power LED devices.

Un-Soo Kim, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics' LED business team, said: "This breakthrough in photon efficiency will help plant owners improve plant growth, quality and profitability. We will continue to innovate for healthier Plant lighting provides a more optimized full-spectrum LED solution and will continue to strengthen its market leadership."

The enhanced LM301H offers higher photon efficiency. Compared to previous versions of the same device, plant lighting manufacturers can reduce the device usage by approximately 30% in each luminaire, achieving the same level of efficiency and luminaire design. Smaller and lighter, reducing manufacturing and transportation costs. If the same number of devices are used, the photon efficiency of the luminaire can be increased by at least 4%, allowing the plant to reduce energy consumption.

By optimizing the active area of the epitaxial structure, Samsung converts electrical energy into more photons, thereby achieving a significant increase in photon efficiency. At the same time, the improvement of the chip structure greatly reduces the light loss and can provide more illumination for the plants.

In addition, due to Samsung's advanced flip chip structure, the LM301H device does not require wire bonding, which helps improve device performance and reliability. The titanium dioxide barrier around the chip gives the device greater reliability when exposed to agrochemicals and harmful emissions from plants.

To promote a more balanced plant growth, the new enhanced full-spectrum LM301H device contains a broader spectrum of light, blue, and red light that enhances plant immunity to disease and enhances nutritional value.

Samsung is expected to begin mass production of the new enhanced LM301H device by the end of this month and will be on display at LIGHTFAIR International 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA from May 21st to 23rd, 2019.
