Shaoyang Mobile Completes Urban Road Lighting Quality Improvement Project

Hunan Mobile Shaoyang Branch (hereinafter referred to as "Shaoyang Mobile"), in conjunction with the Longhui County Public Utilities Service Center, implemented a pilot project for smart lighting renovation in the county. Using an "Internet of Things + Smart Lighting" solution, 40 old streetlights were upgraded, resulting in doubled road illumination, a significant reduction in energy consumption, and a digital transformation of the operation and maintenance model. The project generated complete implementation data through on-site monitoring, refined a standardized renovation methodology adapted to the county's scenarios, and verified the feasibility of China Mobile's smart lighting solution in a prefecture-level county. This provides a replicable and scalable digital and energy-saving demonstration model for the intelligent transformation of streetlights throughout the county.

Shaoyang Mobile Completes Urban Road Lighting Quality Improvement Project

I. Verifying the Feasibility of China Mobile's Solution and Exploring New Paths for Smart Lighting in Counties

To explore feasible paths for the intelligent upgrading of county-level road lighting, Shaoyang Mobile, in conjunction with the Longhui County Public Utilities Service Center, implemented a pilot renovation project to improve the quality of urban road lighting. Two core main roads in the urban area, Taohua Road and Wangjiang Road-Zixiayuan, were selected for smart street light renovations. The entire project lasted 15 days, fully implementing China Mobile's integrated "IoT + Smart Lighting" solution.

This pilot project fully verified the adaptability of this solution to the old road scenarios in the county. Through multi-dimensional data monitoring and comparison on-site, the road lighting quality of the renovated sections achieved a significant upgrade, and overall energy consumption was significantly reduced. The project accumulated full-process measured data and practical experience in county-level street light renovation, laying a solid practical foundation for the subsequent large-scale promotion of smart lighting renovation projects throughout the county.

II. Technological Foundation: Reusing Existing Lights for a Highly Efficient Sensing Network

Addressing the pain points of high energy consumption, uneven lighting, and inefficient management of old streetlights in Longhui County, Shaoyang Mobile formulated a renovation strategy of "minimal intervention, maximum efficiency." Without altering the existing light poles and wiring, the replacement of 40 old light fixtures was completed efficiently in just two days. Specifically, all 22 250W high-pressure sodium lamps on Taohua Road were replaced with China Mobile's 100W high-efficiency IoT streetlights, and 18 old 150W LED lights on Wangjiang Road-Zixia Garden were simultaneously upgraded. The new lights not only have higher luminous efficacy and color rendering index, but also have built-in individual lamp controllers, enabling precise control of each streetlight and constructing a smart lighting sensing network covering the pilot road section.

III. Efficiency Innovation: Doubling Illuminance, Significant Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction

Actual measurement data is the touchstone for verifying the results. After the renovation, the lighting indicators of the pilot road sections achieved a qualitative leap:

* Increased Brightness: The renovated Taohua Road and Wangjiang Road-Zixia Garden sections have shed their previous dimness, with average illuminance on the road surface jumping from approximately 14 Lux and 9.5 Lux to around 37 Lux and 27.5 Lux, respectively. In particular, the Wangjiang Road section, which previously had weak lighting infrastructure, saw a nearly twofold increase in brightness, eliminating dark areas and blind spots, significantly improving the safety and comfort of nighttime travel.

* Reduced Maintenance Burden: Before the renovation, one street light on Wangjiang Road was malfunctioning; after the renovation, the failure rate was reduced to zero. With the remote monitoring function of the intelligent control system, proactive fault alarms can be achieved in the future, transforming traditional "manual inspection" into "passive repair," significantly reducing operation and maintenance costs and management difficulty.

IV. Demonstration and Guidance: Summarizing Experiences and Drawing a Blueprint for Full-Area Promotion

This pilot project was not only an equipment upgrade but also a revolution in management models. Based on the pilot data, Shaoyang Mobile, in conjunction with relevant departments, summarized and refined a methodology suitable for lighting renovation of county roads: for the core area of ??the old city, it is recommended to use medium-low color temperature lamps and install intelligent dimming functions; for urban-rural fringe areas, the focus is on strengthening line inspection and lamp protection levels; for remote rural branch roads, a phased and orderly promotion strategy is adopted. In addition, the project also verified the feasibility of the standardized process of "survey-research-scheme design," laying a solid foundation for subsequent large-scale promotion.

"From 'illuminating' to 'illuminating well,' and then to 'intelligent management,' this pilot project has opened up new avenues for us," said the project leader from Shaoyang Mobile. He added that the next step will be to deepen cooperation with the Longhui County Public Utilities Service Center, leveraging the technological advantages of China Mobile IoT to promote the construction of a lighting data cloud platform. This will enable real-time monitoring, energy consumption analysis, and intelligent alarms for lighting facilities throughout the district, using digital intelligence to help Longhui build a livable, intelligent, and green modern urban area.
