Shijiazhuang Pilots Energy Storage LED Streetlights to Enhance Urban Safety
Residents of Shijiazhuang have noticed a significant upgrade to the streetlights in the Youyi Street underpass-they now come with a "double insurance" feature! Recently, the Shijiazhuang Urban Management Bureau's Urban Lighting Management and Maintenance Center has launched a pilot project installing innovative energy storage streetlights. These lights can provide at least eight hours of emergency lighting during power outages caused by extreme weather, ensuring safer nighttime travel for citizens.

To strengthen urban lighting resilience, the Center has been meticulously upgrading lighting infrastructure, introducing energy storage streetlights as part of efforts to make the city brighter, safer, and more reliable after dark.
The new streetlights are equipped with built-in "emergency power banks", which instantly activate backup power during extreme weather events, guaranteeing uninterrupted illumination for a minimum of eight hours. Field tests confirmed that even when simulated floodwaters reached critical levels, the energy storage streetlights continued to function after a power cutoff, maintaining road visibility and traffic safety.
Currently, the pilot program is limited to the Youyi Street underpass. However, the Shijiazhuang Urban Lighting Management Center plans to expand the initiative, gradually installing these streetlights across 14 underpasses and 51 additional locations citywide, adding a new layer of security to urban operations.
