Solar Streetlights Enhance Rural Nightscapes in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai
Recently, Zhongshan Shidian Lighting Co., Ltd. of Guangdong Province, through the Golmud Charity Association, donated 180 solar emergency lights, worth a total of 30,240 yuan, to public activity areas and impoverished residents in various townships of Golmud City, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. A donation ceremony themed "Supporting Rural Revitalization and Building a Beautiful Homeland" was held.
The donated lights primarily address the emergency lighting needs of public areas in Guolemude Town, Tanggula Mountain Town, Dagele Township, Hedong Hexi Farm, and the Horticultural Farm. They also improve lighting conditions for some impoverished families, effectively alleviating the problem of "unlit streets and difficulty traveling at night."
"Of the 40 lights donated to us this time, 10 will be used in unlit alleys in the town, and 30 will be distributed to pastoral residents. They can be installed at home and used on the pastures," said Zhuoma Cuomao, a civil affairs specialist at the Tanggula Mountain Town government. She added that pastoral residents have an urgent need for portable lighting equipment, and these solar lights solve their practical difficulties in traveling at night. The donation drive didn't stop at simply delivering supplies. The Golmud Charity Association proactively extended its service chain, collaborating with caring enterprises to conduct a comprehensive survey of roads and streetlights in rural and pastoral areas across Golmud. Verification revealed 1,683 streetlights requiring repair throughout Golmud's townships, with most malfunctions stemming from aging power supplies, light sources, and wiring. Repair work is currently being expedited and is expected to be completed by the end of June.
On May 9th, reporters observed workers in the alleyways of Fuyuan Village, Guolemu Township, replacing and repairing components of old streetlights installed before 2016. "We've already completed repairs on over 200 streetlights in areas like Hedong Farm and Hexi Farm, and we're now working diligently to ensure all 1,600+ streetlights are operational by the end of June," explained Ding Jie, the project manager.
Ma Aiping, a staff member of the Golmud Charity Association, said that since the beginning of this year, the association has taken the opportunity of carrying out the "Entering Hundreds of Homes and Solving People's Worries" campaign to solicit opinions from the masses, address their urgent needs, and carry out "doing practical things for the people" projects based on actual needs. This time, the donation and repair work went hand in hand, which not only solved the urgent problems of the masses, but also won the full affirmation of various townships and people in difficulty.
