The navigational lighting system for the newly built second runway of the Taiyuan Wusu International Airport Phase III expansion and renovation project has been successfully activated
A key project under the Civil Aviation Administration of China's 14th Five-Year Plan, the new second runway at Taiyuan Wusu International Airport is 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide, with a distance of 490 meters from the existing runway. The airfield is classified as 4E. The project also includes the construction of taxiways, a south apron, and supporting facilities. The main landing terminal will be equipped with a Category III precision approach system, while the secondary landing terminal will be equipped with a Category I precision approach system. Upon commissioning, the airport's operational support capabilities will be significantly enhanced.

The navigational lighting system, known as the "third eye" for pilots, is a core facility for ensuring flight safety at night and in low-visibility conditions. Construction of the new second runway's navigational lighting project, which commenced on April 1, 2024, has been intensively completed over 14 months, including the completion of the precision approach lighting, runway lighting, taxiway lighting, and two lighting stations.
During the construction process, Shanxi Aviation Industry Group Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the construction unit, Beijing Jinghang'an Airport Engineering Co., Ltd., continuously deepened innovative construction practices. They introduced innovative technologies such as one-piece light boxes, new isolation transformer connectors, and new embedded lighting installation tools. They also revolutionized the manufacturing process for primary lighting cable heads, significantly improving the insulation performance of the lighting circuit and laying a solid foundation for the system's long-term and stable operation.
Next, Shanxi Aviation Industry Group Co., Ltd. will coordinate with all participating units, strengthen communication with civil aviation authorities, and fully promote calibration flights, test flights, and acceptance inspections to ensure the smooth commissioning of the new second runway. This will help Taiyuan build a modern regional aviation hub and elevate the high-quality development of Shanxi's civil aviation industry to a new level.
