Turkey is expected to replace 7 million LED street lights

The project attracted strong interest from General Electric. "At present, Turkey has no local technology to produce LED lighting products, but after importing LED chips, local companies will easily undertake this task." said the head of GE Lighting's Turkish branch.

GE Lighting is one of the project bidders. The company will apply for a pilot in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and tell the Turkish government how much energy can be saved in Turkey after replacing the LED lighting products for street lamps.

In fact, two companies have already applied for the pilot program. The Turkish government is also negotiating with some foreign companies and local companies to solve the problem of local production of LED street lights.

It is understood that Turkey currently spends about 650 million liras on street lights every year, and it is expected to save 75% of energy after switching to LED lighting.

In addition, GE Lighting is also negotiating with the country's Ministry of Health to use LED lighting products in hospitals in Turkey. If the project comes to fruition, all local hospitals will also use such lighting systems.

"The Turkish government is taking steps to review the options of various departments." GE's chief said.

According to reports, many countries around the world have taken measures to improve the efficiency of energy use in homes and businesses, such as banning the use of incandescent lamps. Turkey, on the other hand, follows EU environmental regulations and is taking action accordingly.

Although LEDs cost about twice as much to produce as other lighting products, in long-term operation, it has been proven to save a lot of energy, so money is saved.
