All Wukesong Sports Center uses LED lighting
At 12:10 on February 3, the huge red curtain in the infield of the Wukesong Sports Center slowly opened, and the Chinese women's ice hockey and the Czech women's ice hockey set foot on the ice. The Song Sports Center opened the era of "Double Olympic Stadiums".
In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Wukesong Sports Center hosted a basketball game, witnessing the feat of the Chinese men's basketball team led by Yao Ming to carry the American Dream Team. After the successful bid for the 2015 Beijing Winter Olympics, the Wukesong Sports Center became a women's ice hockey and some men's ice hockey stadiums.
In order to better serve the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Wukesong Sports Center started a comprehensive renovation project in April 2020. The renovation project includes the replacement of new ice-making units, and the design and reconstruction of functional rooms such as players' locker rooms, doping testing rooms, and laundry rooms.
During the renovation, Wukesong Sports Center creatively used the "ice dam" technology to "cut" an ice rink that meets the Winter Olympics standard (26 meters x 60 meters) on the basis of retaining the 30-meter x 60-meter ice rink, this is the first time in the country. After the renovation, the size of the ice rink in Wukesong Sports Center can be switched as needed, making it a general-purpose venue that can host ice hockey, short track speed skating, figure skating and other events.
Due to the high water content in the air of the ice rink, it is easy to fog on the ice surface, and condensation is easy to occur around the board wall, thus affecting the quality of the ice surface. Therefore, the Wukesong Sports Center is equipped with a new solution dehumidification system, which uses chemical dehumidification to absorb and dry the moisture in the air. Compared with the traditional rotary dehumidification system, the solution dehumidification can reduce the energy consumption by 50%, and the annual operating cost can be reduced by about 70%.
In addition, in order to meet the needs of ice hockey games, Wukesong Sports Center has fully upgraded the lighting system. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Wukesong Sports Center used metal halide lamps, and now they have all been replaced by LED lighting. The replaced lighting has lower flicker, more uniform illumination, and is energy-saving and environmentally friendly.
During the Beijing Winter Olympics, Han Lifan, who served as the deputy manager of the facilities of the venue operation team of the Wukesong Sports Center, introduced that the angle of the camera is different from the lighting requirements during the game. If the camera is fully satisfied, shadows will appear on the sideboard wall. And if the game time requirements are fully met, there will be a lot of light spots on the camera. In order to solve this problem, the venue operation team of Wukesong Sports Center invited lighting experts from the International Ice Hockey Federation and OBS (International Olympic Broadcasting Service Company) to conduct on-the-spot investigation and testing, and successively came up with 8 sets of solutions. Finally, a solution was determined a week before the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which basically eliminated shadows and met OBS's lighting requirements.
Unlike other Winter Olympics events, ice hockey is the only event that requires laundry services for athletes, referees, etc. in the venue. To this end, in the newly built laundry room of Wukesong Sports Center, 3 professional washing machines and 3 dryers with a capacity of 100 kg are installed to ensure that the two teams in each game have their own independent laundry equipment after the game.
