Eye-Protection Lighting Renovation in Schools of Shufu County, Kashgar, Xinjiang
In the first half of this year, Shufu County in the Kashgar Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region completed a comprehensive renovation project for eye-protection lighting in urban and rural compulsory education schools. The lighting systems in all county schools have been upgraded, allowing students to benefit from a healthy lighting environment.

On December 15, a visit to the Second Middle School of Shufu County revealed that the scope of the eye-protection lighting renovation project extended beyond regular classrooms to include laboratories, libraries, functional rooms, and offices. Each classroom adopts a scientific "9+3" lighting layout: nine classroom lights arranged in a matrix to eliminate shadows on desks, and three specialized blackboard lights precisely covering the writing area to effectively reduce glare. In larger spaces such as computer rooms, smart control panels are installed, enabling one-click switching between different scenarios like lectures, presentations, and breaks.
Ayinuer Yusup, a student at Shufu County Second Middle School, explained, "Our classroom lighting has multiple modes. For example, in ‘projection mode,’ the blackboard lights automatically turn off, and the classroom lights dim. This ensures the projection quality while avoiding harsh light that could strain our eyes. The lighting is as soft as natural light, making it easy to see the blackboard even from the back rows."
Shen Shijie, a teacher at the school, gestured toward the brightly lit classroom and remarked, "The new eye-protection lights are flicker-free, low in blue light, and have a high color rendering index, which accurately reproduces textbook colors. Students' focus in class has noticeably improved, and parents are highly appreciative of this people-centered initiative."
According to an official from the Shufu County Education Bureau, the eye-protection lighting renovation project is one of the key initiatives for improving people's livelihoods in Shufu County in 2025. A total of 3.175 million yuan from central government special funds was allocated to purchase and install 11,142 LED eye-protection lights across 21 primary and secondary schools in the county. All lighting fixtures meet national photobiological safety certification standards. The average illuminance on desks is no less than 300 lux, with uniformity exceeding 0.85, while blackboard illuminance exceeds 500 lux, fully complying with the "Hygienic Standards for Lighting and Daylighting in Primary and Secondary School Classrooms."
