In the past, Ningzhang Highway was dark every night. When it rained, the lighting blind spots were more obvious, posing a safety hazard. Repairing and installing street lights and solving travel problems have become the long-cherished wish of nearby villagers and drivers who often travel on this road section.
The people have something to say, and the government has something to respond. In order to let the people have a "heart-warming light" on their way home, in November 2023, the Datong County Transportation Bureau included two secondary highways and six third-level highways in the county, totaling 200 kilometers of roads, into the Datong County Ordinary Provincial Road and Rural Road Security Shortcomings Filling Project, and successively installed and updated 6,490 street lights. The street lights are all integrated LED light sources, which can sense weather and light source changes and light up immediately. The project has now been completed.
Zhou Jun, deputy director of the Datong County Transportation Bureau, said: "The project has greatly improved the security infrastructure function of rural roads in Datong County, solved the daily travel lighting problems reported by 167,000 people in 67 villages in 12 towns, fastened a 'seat belt' for dangerous sections of rural roads in the county, and added a 'safety lock' for the majority of people and vehicles traveling at night."

Wang Kai, a truck driver from Datong County, said that in the past, when driving at night, the dimness on both sides of the road caused great trouble to the driver and also buried safety hazards. Now with the installation of street lights and the implementation of lighting projects, the roads have become bright and clear, which not only improves the safety of night driving, but also relieves the psychological pressure of many drivers.
While doing a good job in the construction of security and short-board projects for ordinary provincial roads and rural roads, Datong County has also created a number of high-quality rural roads in counties and villages that are "smooth, safe, green and beautiful". Road upgrading and reconstruction projects were implemented in 14 eco-tourism villages, and some villages and towns with good traffic conditions and obvious creation advantages were selected to build characteristic tourist roads such as the Xigou Road, Xiegou Road, Qiaoyin Road, and Xunrang Road, connecting 4 tourist attractions and 123 farmhouses, allowing 2,840 people to find jobs at their doorsteps.
