Over 18,000 Streetlights in Hefei's Luyang District Get a Makeover

As night falls, strolling along the main and secondary roads of the district reveals a brighter and clearer cityscape. Recently, it was learned from the Hefei Luyang District Gardening and Greening Management Center that Luyang District is implementing LED energy-saving upgrades on over 18,000 traditional streetlights, simultaneously upgrading its smart management system to enhance urban quality through green, low-carbon, and intelligent management.

It is understood that the renovation covers 237 main and secondary roads and back streets throughout the district. Adhering to the national "dual-carbon" strategy, the project adopts an Energy Management Contract (EMC) model, with professional energy service companies funding and maintaining the system. 14,000 high-pressure sodium lamps and 4,000 old lamps will be replaced with high-efficiency, long-life LED energy-saving streetlights. After the renovation, the brightness of road lighting will be significantly improved, making nighttime travel safer and more comfortable for citizens.

It is worth mentioning that this renovation also utilizes smart technology to make the streetlights "smarter." The project leverages IoT technology to install individual lamp controllers on each streetlight and upgrade the smart management platform, achieving refined "one lamp, one controller" management.

Remote real-time monitoring, precise dimming of individual lamps, automatic fault warnings… Based on the smart management platform, staff can monitor the streetlight's operating status in real time and accurately collect electricity consumption data, eliminating the need for traditional manual inspections and significantly improving the efficiency and service level of urban lighting management.

"We adhere to a 'one road, one policy' approach, optimizing the lamp's illumination angle based on actual site conditions, reasonably adding extension lamp arms, and actively addressing issues such as trees blocking sunlight," said a relevant from the Luyang District Gardening and Greening Management Center. The entire renovation project was scheduled during off-peak traffic hours and nighttime periods to minimize the impact on citizens' daily travel. Currently, over 5,000 new LED energy-saving streetlights have been put into operation on sections such as Mengcheng North Road and Silihe Road. The entire project is expected to be completed in October this year. In the future, it is projected to save over 5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 3,000 tons.
