India has distributed 361.3 million LED bulbs

According to foreign media reports, according to data from the Ministry of Electric Power (MoP), more than 361.3 million LED light bulbs have been distributed throughout India, and 10.3 million smart LED street lights have been installed according to the UJALA initiative and the national plan for LED street lights. Electricity is 6.97 billion kWh.

Rising energy spending has been a problem in India, and one of the most overlooked reasons for this is energy efficiency. In order to improve energy efficiency, the Indian government has launched the UJALA initiative and the national plan for LED street lights, which has helped India to significantly increase energy conservation levels. Since its launch in January 2015, the UJALA initiative and the national plan for LED street lights have been in their fifth anniversary.

The Indian government claims that the sales volume of LED bulbs in the Indian market has increased from 0.1% in 2014 to 15% within a year, and is expected to increase to 60% by 2020; the average household electricity bill will be reduced by 15% each year, and energy savings will be equivalent to one week average income. The government also pointed out that between 2015 and 2018, the price of LED bulbs allocated under the UJALA initiative has dropped to one tenth of its price.

The Indian government said in a statement, "Because these lights are automatic, they can be turned on and off at sunrise and sunset, reducing waste. The device can also remotely track and correct any failures. Over the past five years The installed LED street lights have illuminated 300,000 kilometers of roads in India, thus achieving public safety and energy-saving lighting. "

The Indian Energy Efficiency Management Group (EESL), a division of the Indian Ministry of Electric Power, has been authorized to implement this plan. EESL works with distribution companies through a benefit-sharing approach. The government statement added that EESL plans to invest 80 billion Indian rupees (about 7.8 billion yuan) in the next four to five years to install and refurbish more than 30 million LED street lights.

At the same time, the "National Street Lighting Project" aims to replace 13.4 million traditional street lights with smart LED by March 2020. The Indian government expects that this “ambitious target” will reduce peak demand by about 1,500 MW, save 9 billion kWh of energy annually, and reduce 6.2 million tons of carbon dioxide.

According to the UJALA initiative, the Indian government hopes to replace high-efficiency LED bulbs with currently inefficient incandescent bulbs by 2019 with high-efficiency LED bulbs, thereby achieving energy-saving targets of more than 100 million kilowatts per hour. Since its establishment in January 2015, the Energy Efficiency Management Group (EESL) has distributed LED bulbs with a total value of more than Rs 280 crore to communities across India. EESL is mainly responsible for implementing the UJALA initiative under the supervision of the Ministry of Power.
