LED lighting technology improves the breeding rate of 2-inch dragon and tabby seedlings

Grouper farming mainly focuses on raising dragon tiger grouper (Pearl Gentian grouper). However, during the period from grouper eggs to 2-inch fry, the fry have the habit of eating each other's "scrap", which easily increases the fry breeding rate. discount. The Fishery Laboratory Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture has developed a technology that uses light-emitting diode (LED) lighting to reduce the cannibalistic behavior of dragon and tiger spots. It can effectively increase the breeding rate of 2-inch fry by about 10%. Maintaining day and night cycle lighting in an indoor breeding environment also helps to improve Fry growth rate and immunity.

LED lighting technology improves the breeding rate of 2-inch dragon and tabby seedlings

Dragon and tiger grouper fry have the habit of cannibalizing each other. In the past, nursery operators mostly used methods such as increasing feeding frequency or selecting fish of the same size in the same pond based on body size to control the cannibalistic behavior, but the effect was not obvious. Xie Yirui, an assistant researcher at the Eastern Fisheries Biological Research Center of the Institute of Water Research, pointed out that the industry has to screen fish of similar size every three days, which is very labor-intensive. Many past studies have confirmed that different light can affect biological behavior, and the Institute of Water Research has gained inspiration from this. , trying to control the cannibalistic behavior of dragons and tigers using lighting technology.

The water test can emit LED lamps of a single wavelength to find the optimal light wavelength for indoor nursery lighting. While maintaining day and night cycle lighting and changing the water light environment, it can reduce the cannibalistic behavior of fish fry. Xie Yirui said that because the fry are active in the pond water, in addition to having appropriate wavelengths and periodic lighting, the intensity of the light reaching the water surface will also be confirmed. The fish fry breeding rate of participating nursery operators was originally only 60%. After changing the LED lighting, the breeding rate can be Increased to 70% or 80%, it is speculated that the light may change the endocrine of the fry, leading to behavioral changes.

Changes in light in the breeding environment will change the behavior of dragon and tiger grouper fry. Traditionally, nursery operators will also use a completely dark environment to reduce the cannibalistic behavior of fry. Xie Yirui said that the growth rate of fry cultured in all-black conditions is similar to that under LED lighting. However, the fry cultured in all-black areas do not have a natural day and night cycle, which results in the growth rate of fry being on average about 10% slower than that of fry in light environments. The growth rate of fry under LED lighting can be as high as 10%. It is slightly faster than the normal light environment. For physiological testing, its RNA immunity is also higher.
