LED Lights Installed at 37 Crosswalks in Pingxiang, Jiangxi

Recently, the Traffic Police Detachment of Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province, launched a special initiative, using light to illuminate crosswalks at night-a move that has garnered praise from residents.

As night falls and the city lights up, observant citizens have noticed that crosswalks on some road sections in Pingxiang now glow in the dark. At 8 p.m., a reporter visited a crosswalk near Pingxiang No. 7 Middle School and found the area significantly brighter than before. The reason: newly installed lights on both sides of the crosswalk. The bright illumination makes pedestrians on the crosswalk clearly visible, even from a distance, greatly enhancing driving safety at night.

“Before, car drivers might not have seen us clearly from afar when we were crossing,” said Zou Haojie, a student. “Now, with the lights making everything brighter, it’s much safer for us to cross the road. It’s really great.”

According to reports, the “Light Up the Crosswalk” initiative is an important measure taken by the Pingxiang Traffic Police Detachment under the practice of “I Do Practical Things for the People.” It aims to enhance road traffic safety through technological means and protect the lives and property of the public. Installing lights at crosswalks not only illuminates pedestrians crossing at night but also allows drivers to spot them earlier, helping prevent accidents on crosswalks.

“Through analyzing past accidents, we found that if pedestrians wear dark clothes while crossing at night, they are harder for drivers to notice,” said Yang Xigui, Deputy Section Chief of the Order Management Section of the Pingxiang Traffic Police Detachment. “To address this issue, we installed additional lights near crosswalks to illuminate pedestrians, making nighttime travel safer.”

So far, the traffic police department has installed illumination and warning lights at 37 crosswalks in urban Pingxiang with dim lighting and high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The next step will be to promote this initiative across the entire city of Pingxiang.
